How to Make Your Own Comfrey Salve with Evans Organics 8 oz. Comfrey Massage Oil
There's something satisfying about making your own herbal skincare products. With just three simple ingredients, you can transform our Evans Organics Comfrey Massage Oil into a smooth, nourishing salve that's easy to apply and perfect for everyday skin care.
Why Make Your Own Salve?
A salve is simply an infused oil that has been thickened with beeswax to create a smooth, spreadable balm. By adding shea butter, you'll create a softer texture that melts beautifully into the skin.
One bottle of Evans Organics 8 oz. Comfrey Massage Oil makes an excellent batch of salve with very little effort.
Ingredients
1 bottle (8 oz.) Evans Organics Comfrey Massage Oil
1 oz. beeswax pellets
1 oz. shea butter
Supplies You'll Need
Double boiler (or a heat-safe bowl over a pot of simmering water)
Silicone spatula or spoon
Kitchen scale (recommended)
Four 2-ounce tins or two 4-ounce jars
Measuring cup with a pouring spout (optional)
Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace
Before you begin, make sure your jars or tins are clean and completely dry. Have all your ingredients measured and ready to go.
Step 2: Melt the Beeswax and Shea Butter
Place the beeswax pellets and shea butter into your double boiler.
Heat gently over low to medium heat until everything has completely melted.
Avoid overheating the mixture.
Step 3: Add the Comfrey Oil
Remove the melted mixture from the heat.
Slowly pour in the entire bottle of Evans Organics Comfrey Massage Oil while stirring continuously.
Continue stirring for about one minute to ensure everything is well combined.
Step 4: Pour Into Containers
Carefully pour the warm mixture into your tins or jars.
Work slowly to prevent spills.
Step 5: Let It Cool
Allow the salve to cool undisturbed for 3–4 hours, or until completely firm.
Once cooled, place the lids on your containers.
Finished Product
Your homemade salve should have:
A smooth, creamy texture
Easy application without feeling greasy
A light, natural herbal aroma with refreshing spearmint notes
If you'd like a firmer salve for warmer weather, add an extra ½ ounce of beeswax. For a softer salve, reduce the beeswax by ½ ounce.
Storage
Store your finished salve in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
For the best quality, use within 9–12 months.
